Basketball Recap: Hopewell Picks Up 14th Straight Win at Home

Hopewell came tearing into Tuesday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27 points) and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Petersburg Crimson Wave 73-38. The Blue Devils have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 21 points or more this season.

Hopewell got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Nick Byrd out in front who made all 6 shots he took to post 17 points along with eight assists and five steals. With that strong performance, Byrd is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Deshawn Spellman was another key player, going 7 for 9 on his way to 18 points.

Byrd wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Hopewell was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Petersburg only racked up two assists.

Despite the loss, Petersburg saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Larry Walker posted 12 points. Walker also posted a block, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Nylan Robinson, who earned four points.
