The Powhatan Indians will square off against the Clover Hill Cavaliers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Powhatan took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They never let James River Midlothian get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. The Indians haven't had any issues with the Rapids recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Powhatan got a massive performance out of Ava Harper, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most hits Harper has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Mazie Harmon, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Powhatan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as James River Midlothian only posted an OBP of .227.
Meanwhile, Clover Hill waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They put the hurt on the Skyhawks with a sharp 17-5 victory. While the Cavaliers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-13-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Olivia Kelly was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Madison Hayes was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Clover Hill's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games. As for Powhatan, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Powhatan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .370. However, it's not like Clover Hill struggles in that department as they've averaged .420. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Powhatan was able to grind out a solid win over Clover Hill when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 8-4. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
