Softball Recap: Bonneville Sets Scoring Season-High Against Northridge

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bonneville). They were the clear victors by an 18-6 margin over the Northridge Knights on Tuesday. This was a revenge game for the Lakers: when they faced off against the Knights back in March, they had to take a 12-7 loss.

Peyton Johnson made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Marley Chournos was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Ellee Summers was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI.

Bonneville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.3 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 10.8.

The victory made it two in a row for Bonneville and bumps their season record up to 6-12. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Northridge, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

Coincidentally, Bonneville and Northridge will both be playing Viewmont the next time they take the field. The Knights will head out to face the Vikings at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while the Lakers will head out to face them at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
