Softball Game Preview: Magnolia Sentinels vs. Estancia Eagles

The Magnolia Sentinels will head out to challenge the Estancia Eagles at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Magnolia has given up an average of 9.9 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Magnolia barely beat La Quinta the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Sentinels were the clear victors by a 31-14 margin over the Aztecs on Friday. The Sentinels' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

The team relied heavily on Sophia Corrales, who got on base in six of her seven plate appearances with one home run, five runs, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (four). Another player making a difference was Angela Mantujano, who went 3-for-5 with six RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Magnolia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .804. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Estancia was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They came up short against Segerstrom, falling 33-0.

Magnolia is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.6 runs over those games. As for Estancia, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-19.

Everything went Magnolia's way against Estancia when the teams last played on April 3rd, as Magnolia made off with a 22-6 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sentinels since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
