Basketball Recap: Prairie Central Comes Up Short

Prairie Central lost against Bloomington Central Catholic back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Prairie Central Hawks had to suffer through a 76-42 loss at the hands of the Bloomington Central Catholic Saints. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 465th, while the Saints are ranked 85th).

Several Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jayla Hammond, who posted 12 points. Cami Slagel was another key player, putting up eight points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Prairie Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Bloomington Central Catholic's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Karissa Cook, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards. Cook has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kate Stolfa, who went 9 for 12 en route to 19 points.

Prairie Central's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-18. As for Bloomington Central Catholic, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 20-7.

Prairie Central didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 45-38 victory against Iroquois West on the 4th. As for Bloomington Central Catholic, they will square off against Teutopolis at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Bloomington Central Catholic is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.3 points per game this season.
