Baseball Recap: Manitowoc Lincoln Starts Season with Win on the Road

Manitowoc Lincoln had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They never let the Green Bay Southwest Fighting Trojans get on the board and left with a 5-0 win. The Ships haven't had any issues with the Fighting Trojans recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Brayden Steinbecker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Vance Schroeder, who went 3-for-4 with three doubles and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Manitowoc Lincoln hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Green Bay Southwest struck out ten times.

Green Bay Southwest's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 3-2.

Looking ahead, Manitowoc Lincoln will welcome Sheboygan North at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Green Bay Southwest, they will head out to challenge Notre Dame Academy at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Fighting Trojans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tritons have averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season.
