Baseball Recap: John Marshall's Luck Changes for the Better on Saturday

John Marshall's game on Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Fairland Dragons 9-8. The victory was some much needed relief for the Monarchs as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.

Mason Markonich made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Jayden Astipalitis was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Cain Martin was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

John Marshall was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

John Marshall's win bumped their record up to 6-8. As for Fairland, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-8.

Looking ahead, John Marshall will welcome St. Clairsville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Fairland, they will take on Hurricane at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. The Redskins' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Dragons' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
