Softball Recap: Willow Canyon Makes It 19 in a Row at Home

It was a proper cat-fight when Willow Canyon faced off against Kellis on Wednesday. The Wildcats never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Lucy Burroughs made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Burroughs was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Mataya Olson was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Lailia Marrero was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.

Willow Canyon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Willow Canyon pushed their record up to 13-6-1 with the victory, which was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Kellis, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Willow Canyon will head out on the road to face off against Desert Mountain at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Wolves will roll in looking for their 16th straight victory, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight. As for Kellis, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Williams Field at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
