Preview: Brookfield Warriors vs. Newton Falls Tigers
Brookfield has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Newton Falls Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Ohio (Brookfield is ranked 616th, while Newton Falls is ranked 614th).
Brookfield struggled with assists on Thursday (Pymatuning Valley had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Brookfield fell just short of Pymatuning Valley by a score of 45-42.
Despite their loss, Brookfield saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Marae Craig, who scored nine points along with seven steals and six rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Cailey Wellman, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Newton Falls earned a 32-20 win over Mathews on Thursday.
Brookfield's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-13. As for Newton Falls, their win bumped their record up to 9-12.
Brookfield was able to grind out a solid win over Newton Falls in their previous meeting back in January, winning 39-32. The rematch might be a little tougher for Brookfield since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
