Basketball Recap: Westville Falls Despite Big Games from Brian Jackson and Tyler Massengill

Westville played a tough matchup on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Hammond Central Wolves, falling 63-42. The game marked the Blackhawks' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Westville's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Tyler Massengill, who went 6-for-8 to rack up 14 points and six rebounds, and Brian Jackson, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 11 boards. The matchup was Jackson's 17th in a row with at least 16 points. Alex Massengill also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Even though they lost, Westville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Marcus Browder was his usual excellent self, going 10-for-18 on his way to 23 points along with six boards and five steals for Hammond Central. That makes it three consecutive games in which Browder has scored at least a third of Hammond Central's points. Another player making a difference was Semaj Davis, who posted nine points and seven rebounds.

Westville's loss dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Hammond Central, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-10.
