Softball Game Preview: Rio Vista Eagles vs. Moody Bearcats

The Rio Vista Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Moody Bearcats at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rio Vista is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.4 runs per game this season.

Rio Vista is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They skirted past Axtell 7-5.

Kailee Dyer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, Keller Rodriguez was excellent, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Cloe Zepeda, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Moody's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Saturday. Everything went their way against De Leon as they made off with an 8-0 victory. Moody might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.

Moody has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-8-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Rio Vista, their victory bumped their record up to 17-3.

Rio Vista beat Moody 12-7 in their previous matchup back in March of 2019. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
