Softball Recap: Illini West Gets the Win

After losing to Monmouth-Roseville the last time they met, Illini West decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Chargers came out on top against the Titans by a score of 6-1 on Thursday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Chargers.

Hattie Wood looked comfortable as she tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kate DeSotel, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Kennedy Gunning was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Illini West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive games.

Illini West's victory bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Monmouth-Roseville, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Illini West will square off against Sherrard at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Monmouth-Roseville, they will challenge Kewanee at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
