Softball Game Preview: Kennedy Cougars vs. Cordova Lancers

The Kennedy Cougars will welcome the Cordova Lancers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kennedy will be strutting in after a victory while Cordova will be coming in after a defeat.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Kennedy turned things around against Antelope on Thursday. They walked away with a 7-4 win over the Titans.

Kaylena Ogle made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kira Griffin, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 1-for-3. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Gia Smith was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Cordova's offense. They lost 16-0 to McClatchy on Thursday. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Lancers were not able to get on the board.

Kennedy's victory bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Cordova, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-5.
