Basketball Recap: Payson Skates Past Timpanogos with Ease

Payson was handed a heart-breaking two-point loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Timpanogos on Friday. The Payson Lions took their matchup with ease, bagging a 60-24 victory over the Timpanogos Timberwolves. The Lions have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 26 points or more this season.

Payson was led to victory by Emmy Hales and Quincey Mathews. Hales dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards, while Mathews dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Mathews a new career-high in boards. Halle Anderson was another key player, putting up nine points.

Payson has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.0 points per game. As for Timpanogos, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Payson will challenge Mountain View at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Mountain View is on a six-game streak of home wins, Payson a 14-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Timpanogos, they will square off against Uintah at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
