Basketball Game Preview: Las Cruces Bulldawgs vs. Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls

The Las Cruces Bulldawgs will face off against the Carlsbad Cavemen/Cavegirls at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many points in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Las Cruces is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Hobbs, who was ranked first at the time (Las Cruces was ranked 12th). Las Cruces took a blow against Hobbs on Tuesday, falling 75-24. The Bulldawgs haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.

Danae Pacheco was Las Cruces' leading scorer, having posted eight points. Sofia Herrera held things down on the boards with five rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

Meanwhile, Carlsbad was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 31-25 heartbreaker at the hands of Mayfield. The contest marked the Cavemen/Cavegirls' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Las Cruces' defeat dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Carlsbad, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-5.

Everything came up roses for Las Cruces against Carlsbad when the teams last played back in January of 2024, as the squad secured a 63-35 victory. Will Las Cruces repeat their success, or does Carlsbad have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
