Softball Recap: Milan Takes a Loss

Milan dropped their record down to 23-10 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Westview Chargers, falling 8-1. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Chargers this season, with their most recent loss being a 8-0 defeat last Tuesday.

As for Westview, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-6. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games.

For Westview's part, McCall Sims made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. Sims has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Sarah Byars was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Zoey Matte, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

As of now, neither Milan nor Westview have any future games scheduled.
