Baseball Game Preview: Austin Black Bears vs. Brewer Patriots

The Austin Black Bears are taking a road trip to challenge the Brewer Patriots at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

Austin is headed into the match having just suffered their biggest defeat since March 7, 2024 on Friday. They lost 13-4 to Decatur. The Black Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Bryant Jones was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Jones wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tyler Parker, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Brewer, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. Everything went their way against Pennington on Friday as Brewer made off with a 15-0 victory. The Patriots' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Brewer's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Austin, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.

Austin took their victory against Brewer when the teams last played back in February of 2016 by a conclusive 7-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Austin since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
