Softball Recap: East River Extends Home Winning Streak to Three

East River's rock-solid pitcher showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Boone Braves a 3-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 4-3 back in February.

Katherine Sanchez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Sanchez wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Talisa Soto, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Another was Gaby Angueira, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.

East River pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Boone, they moved to 7-7 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Coincidentally, East River and Boone will both be playing Colonial the next time they take the field. The Falcons will head out to face the Grenadiers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Braves will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
