Softball Recap: Wayne Comes Up Short

After flying high against Ripley on Tuesday, Wayne came back down to earth. The Pioneers fell 10-6 to the Point Pleasant Big Blacks on Wednesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Pioneers in their meetings with the Big Blacks: they've now lost four in a row.

Kaliah Merritt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and six unearned) runs on ten hits. Those hits were her first of the season.

At the plate, Kylee Copley made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Lexi Napier was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.

Wayne's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Point Pleasant, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-5.

Looking ahead, Wayne will square off against Nitro at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Point Pleasant, they will take on Scott at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
