Basketball Recap: Make It Two in a Row for Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard]

If Elkhorn Valley wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard], they should've done a better job of containing Michael Koenig. The Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] Bobcats walked away with a 35-26 victory over the Elkhorn Valley Falcons on Tuesday thanks in part to Koenig, who went 8 for 13 en route to 18 points and five rebounds. He has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last eight times he's played.

Another player making a difference was Preston Hoke, who posted eight points in addition to nine boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in rebounds.

Several Falcons players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kellyn Ollendick, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Korbin Werner, who scored seven points and 14 rebounds.

The win made it two in a row for Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] and bumps their season record up to 15-1. As for Elkhorn Valley, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 12-4.

Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] will face off against Wausa at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Wausa knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matches -- so hopefully Summerland [Clearwater/Ewing/Orchard] likes a good challenge. As for Elkhorn Valley, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Cedar Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on February 11th.
