Softball Recap: El Modena Comes Up Short

El Modena was the 8-5 winner over Pacifica when they last played one another back in May of 2025, but their luck changed this time around. The Vanguards fell just short of the Mariners by a score of 10-8 on Friday. Vanguards fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Mariners since Friday.

Kylie Tafua was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Hallie Calderon, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

El Modena has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Pacifica, their record now sits at 13-8.

Coming up, Pacifica will square off against Cypress at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. El Modena will be paying especially close attention to the Mariners' contest: after the Mariners face off against the Centurions, they'll take on El Modena again at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
