Baseball Recap: La Salle Takes a Loss

After a string of three wins, La Salle's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Elder Panthers by a score of 7-6. The Lancers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Panthers earlier this season, when they won 4-2.

La Salle got a good showing from Alex Smith, who struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Smith is becoming a predictor of the Lancers' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Colin Bobowski made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-3. He also put up three RBI, which were his first of the season.

La Salle's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Elder, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-4.

Looking ahead, Elder will take on Lakota West at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. La Salle will be paying especially close attention to the Panthers' game: after the Panthers faces off against the Firebirds, they'll take on La Salle again at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
