Baseball Game Preview: James Monroe Yellow Jackets vs. Massaponax Panthers

The James Monroe Yellow Jackets will head out on the road to take on the Massaponax Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. James Monroe is coming into the game on a six-game losing streak.

Maggie Walker hit James Monroe with a nine-run sixth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Yellow Jackets lost 15-5 to Maggie Walker.

Jordan Hardison made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of James Monroe's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 2-1 (and 2-9 when he doesn't). Donya Johns Jr also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Massaponax). They walked away with a 9-4 win over Brooke Point on Friday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Panthers as it put an end to their nine-game losing streak.

Jaxon Beasley and Austin Elliott were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Beasley tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Meanwhile, Elliott tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Beasley has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Beasley went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Elliott went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Those two runs gave Beasley a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ethan Greene, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.

The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-16-1. As for James Monroe, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.

James Monroe suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Massaponax in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Yellow Jackets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
