Anderson is 2-8 against University Prep since May of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Cubs will welcome the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. Anderson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Anderson made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Central Valley, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Cubs fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Cubs have suffered since April 7, 2025.
Chloe Gurney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask University Prep). They put the hurt on Central Valley with a sharp 16-6 win on Wednesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
University Prep got a great performance from Rylynn Davis as she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. Davis has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, University Prep let Brianna Schuette and Aubrey Caudell run wild. Schuette went a perfect 4-for-4 with two triples, two stolen bases, and five RBI, while Caudell went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those two triples gave Schuette a new career-high. Anna Hall was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
University Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Anderson's loss dropped their record down to 8-7-1. As for University Prep, their win bumped their record up to 3-11.
University Prep's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Anderson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .447. It's a different story for University Prep, though, as they've only averaged .352. Will they be able to contain Anderson's hitters?
Anderson might still be hurting after the 18-3 defeat they got from University Prep when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Cubs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
