Basketball Recap: Mauldin Drops Highest Score of Season Against Hillcrest

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mauldin). They put the hurt on the Hillcrest Rams with a sharp 66-40 win on Friday. The Mavericks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 22 points or more this season.

It was another big night for Zara Leamon, who posted 22 points in addition to eight boards and eight steals. Leamon is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Jalaila Ligon was another key player, putting up 11 points and three steals.

Mauldin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Mauldin's victory bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Hillcrest, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.

Mauldin will venture away from home to take on Woodmont at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mauldin has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Hillcrest has already played their next game (against Easley), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
