Softball Preview: Loudon Redskins vs. South-Doyle Cherokees

The Loudon Redskins will head out on the road to face off against the South-Doyle Cherokees at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Loudon is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.

Things were looking good for Loudon after they put the first runs on the board on Monday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of Midway. While the Redskins didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Green Wave 4-0 in the first period.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South-Doyle). They blew past Northview Academy 12-1 on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Haylee Richards was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Natalie Smithers, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Emma Hogan also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
