Baseball Game Preview: Basalt Longhorns vs. Roaring Fork Rams

For the second straight game, Basalt will face off against Roaring Fork. The Longhorns will head out to face off against the Rams at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The last three games Basalt has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

While Basalt didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over Roaring Fork on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Longhorns have posted against the Rams since May 29, 2021.

Taylor Hays made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Hays wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Parker Sims, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Sims has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another was Karson Schneider, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Roaring Fork dropped their record down to 3-10 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Basalt, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.
