Basketball Game Preview: Gaither Cowboys vs. Wharton Wildcats

Gaither is 0-10 against Wharton since January of 2017 but things could change on Thursday. The Gaither Cowboys will square off against the Wharton Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Tuesday, Gaither needed a bit of extra time to put away Middleton. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Tigers, sneaking past 38-36. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cowboys have posted since December 30, 2024.

Meanwhile, Wharton beat Blake 47-39 on Tuesday.

Wharton's win came from a few key players Gaither will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Janyia Scott, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten steals. Those 23 points gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaytee Tyler, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds.

Gaither has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a massive bump to their 12-11 record this season. As for Wharton, their victory bumped their record up to 13-9.

Gaither came up short against Wharton in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, falling 46-34. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Tyler, who posted 17 points along with six boards and five steals.
