Basketball Game Preview: Overton Eagles vs. Elm Creek Buffaloes

The Overton Eagles will square off against the Elm Creek Buffaloes at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Overton took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Shelton by a score of 63-55.

Overton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brock McCarter, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 boards. With that strong performance, McCarter is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. Eli Luther was another key player, going 6 for 14 en route to 16 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists.

Meanwhile, Elm Creek waltzed into their game on Tuesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They blew past the Bluejays 70-45. Given the Buffaloes' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 60th, while the Bluejays are ranked 245th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Elm Creek's win came from a few key players Overton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Quin Oberg, who went 9 of 16 on his way to 22 points along with seven boards and four steals. The contest was his sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Reiter, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds.

Elm Creek's win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points per game. As for Overton, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.
