Basketball Recap: Bennington Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Elkhorn North

On Monday, Bennington faced Elkhorn North in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Bennington Badgers came up short against Elkhorn North, falling 75-55. The Badgers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced Elkhorn North earlier this season, when they won 60-51.

Bennington lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jace Fitzgerald, who posted 20 points. Those 20 points gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gavin Olson, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten rebounds.

Bennington moved to 16-9 with that defeat, which also ended their six-game winning streak. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.8 points over those games. As for Elkhorn North, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That somehow still isn't as good as their 18-5 record this season.
