The Berkner Rams are taking a road trip to face off against the Irving Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Berkner has struggled recently with three losses in a row, while Irving will arrive with four straight victories.
Berkner lost 18-8 to Nimitz on Saturday.
Kinley Akeman was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Heidi Shehan, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Irving took on MacArthur on Friday. The Tigers put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 16-1 win. Considering the Tigers have won eight matchups by more than ten runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Shantia Haymer made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Heily Jiminez, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Abigail Cardenas, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Irving was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .389 or higher in four consecutive games.
Berkner's defeat dropped their record down to 4-19. As for Irving, their record is now 12-13-1.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Berkner hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .361. However, it's not like Irving struggles in that department as they've averaged .408. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Berkner might still be hurting after the 23-1 loss they got from Irving in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
