Baseball Game Preview: Fort Myers Green Wave vs. Naples Golden Eagles

The Fort Myers Green Wave will venture away from home to challenge the Naples Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Fort Myers is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

Last Friday, Fort Myers narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past South Fort Myers 4-2. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Green Wave.

Owen Augustine tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Fort Myers' victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brady Best, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Fort Myers hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Fort Myers struck out ten times.

Meanwhile, Naples didn't have quite enough to beat Estero on Friday and fell 4-3. The Golden Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Fort Myers' win was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Naples, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11.

Fort Myers might still be hurting after the 7-0 loss they got from Naples when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Can Fort Myers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
