Recap: Gateway Olympians vs. Thornton Trojans
The Gateway Olympians came tearing into Thursday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Thornton by a score of 60-50. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Gateway also won the last time the pair played last Monday.
Kaiemion Ashley was nothing short of spectacular: he scored 19 points along with five rebounds and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Maximus Matthews, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds.
Thornton's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Adrian Armendariz, who scored 13 points along with two steals. Armendariz is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Alex Sandovol, who scored nine points.
Gateway pushed their record up to 10-9 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.7 points per game. As for Thornton, their loss dropped their record down to 10-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gateway will square off against Skyview at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gateway has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 482 points over their last seven matchups. As for Thornton, they will head out on the road to take on Aurora Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Thornton is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 58.2 points per game this season.
