Baseball Game Preview: Del Oro Suns vs. Foothill Trojans

For the second straight game, Del Oro will face off against Foothill. The Suns will square off against the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Del Oro has struggled recently with nine defeats in a row, while Foothill will arrive with five straight victories.

Del Oro lost 21-1 to Foothill on Tuesday.

For Foothill's part, Ramon Diaz and Joaquin Carrillo made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Diaz pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Carrillo struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Diaz got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Carrillo got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI. That's the most runs Diaz has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Conrado Machuca was incredible, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Foothill: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Cordoba, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Foothill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 3.7 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.

Foothill's record is now 9-6. As for Del Oro, their loss dropped their record down to 1-19.
