Volleyball Recap: Onaga Beats Jackson Heights for Their Fifth Straight Win

Onaga posted their closest victory since October 22, 2024 on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Jackson Heights Cobras, sneaking past 2-1. Winning may never get old, but the Buffaloes sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.

Onaga had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next two. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-17, 25-20.

Their offense was headlined by Lauryn Marten and Natalie Boswell, who picked up seven kills apiece. They got some help from Abbie Ringel and her 19 assists. Marten and Boswell didn't slow down when it came to serving: they led the team with two apiece.

Defeat or not, Jackson Heights got some senior leadership from Layla Cochran and Gracie Cowsert. Cochran had ten digs, while Cowsert had seven digs and three aces. Cochran is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Onaga's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Jackson Heights, they moved to 4-3 with that loss, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Onaga wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 2-1 victory against Washington County on the 13th. As for Jackson Heights, they have also already played their next contest, a 2-0 win against Frankfort on the 13th.
