Baseball Recap: South Caldwell Spartans vs. Alexander Central Cougars

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact South Caldwell can now relate to. They lost 11-2 to the Alexander Central Cougars on Tuesday. South Caldwell was red-hot at the plate headed into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the three matches prior) but Alexander Central's pitchers proved too tough.

For Alexander Central's part, they got a great performance from Grayson Anderson as he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Anderson has been consistent recently: he hasn't pitched less than five innings in three consecutive pitching appearances.

At the plate, Jaret Hoppes was a standout: he scored three runs while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Sawyer Chapman-Mays, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

South Caldwell's defeat dropped their record down to 17-6. As for Alexander Central, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-12 record this season.

South Caldwell does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Alexander Central, they are on the road again on Friday to play South Mecklenburg. South Mecklenburg will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
