Mammoth and California City are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Huskies will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Ravens at 3:15 p.m. Mammoth has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with six straight defeats, while California City will come in with three straight wins.
Mammoth is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came up short against Boron on Tuesday, falling 15-4.
DJ Gray was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, California City got themselves on the board against Desert on Friday, but Desert never followed suit. They blew past the Scorpions 20-0. That 20 run margin sets a new team best for the Ravens this season.
Blake Moore and Kole Hightower made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Moore kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Hightower pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Moore has been consistent : he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. At the plate, Moore scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Hightower scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5. California City is 3-1-1 when Moore posts two or more runs, but 2-4 otherwise.
In other batting news, Aaroon Moreno was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. He has become a key player for California City: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 2-5-1 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Hammer, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
California City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Mammoth's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for California City, the victory got them back to even at 5-5-1.
Mammoth couldn't quite finish off California City in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Huskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
