Softball Recap: Illinois Valley Central Snaps Six-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

If Illinois Valley Central was feeling good fresh off their 10-3 takedown of Richwoods last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Grey Ghosts fell just short of the Monticello Sages by a score of 6-5 on Saturday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Grey Ghosts of the 4-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Caitlyn Gillette was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Nora Connett, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Illinois Valley Central's loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-5. As for Monticello, their win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Illinois Valley Central will face off against Peoria Notre Dame at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Irish will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Grey Ghosts surely won't give up without a fight. As for Monticello, they will square off against Glenwood at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Titans' pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so the Sages' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
