Basketball Recap: Hannah Sarnowski's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Payson over Tournament Opponent

After a string of three wins, Payson's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell to Tournament Opponent 51-45.

Payson's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hannah Sarnowski, who posted 14 points and seven rebounds. Sarnowski is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Clara Whaley was another key player, putting up 12 points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Payson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in four consecutive games.

Payson's loss dropped their record down to 11-3.

Payson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 48-40 victory against St. Augustine Catholic on the 3rd. As for Tournament Opponent, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 69-8 defeat against Calabasas on the 3rd.
