Basketball Recap: Fort Walton Beach Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Fort Walton Beach won the last time they faced Pine Forest, and SaRuan Newton did her part to make sure it happened again. The Fort Walton Beach Vikings walked away with a 42-35 win over the Pine Forest Eagles on Thursday thanks in part to Newton, who posted 20 points. Her evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.

Pine Forest's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Laila Snow, who had eight points along with five assists and three steals. Snow is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Cha?Miya Bivins-Goldsmiths was another key player, putting up eight points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

The victory was the third in a row for Fort Walton Beach, bringing their record for this year to 11-8. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points per game. As for Pine Forest, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-11 record this season.

Fort Walton Beach will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Pensacola at 6:00 p.m. on January 27th. As for Pine Forest, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-37 win against Marianna on the 20th.
