Pine Crest gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the American Heritage Stallions 3-2. That's more bragging rights for the Panthers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Pine Crest was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. The match finished with set scores of 25-11, 19-25, 22-25, 25-21, 15-8.

John Chen paced Pine Crest's offense, picking up 13 kills. Chen got some help from Cayden Brocato and his 17 assists. Brocato was also solid from the service line: he led the team with five aces.
