Baseball Recap: Coffee County Central Red Raiders vs. Smyrna Bulldogs

Coffee County Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 8-5 to the Smyrna Bulldogs. If the Red Raiders were looking for revenge after losing 3-2 to the Bulldogs when the teams met back in March of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Coffee County Central had to settle for second despite strong performances on the mound from Leiton Yancer and Isaiah Deadman Yancer pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit, while Deadman pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Yancer has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Landan Abellana and Colter Neel did some serious damage despite the final result: Abellana scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Neel went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Looking ahead, Coffee County Central will take on Northwest at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Smyrna, they will challenge The Webb School at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Webb School is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
