Basketball Game Preview: Athenian Owls vs. International Jaguars

The Athenian Owls will head out to face off against the International Jaguars at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Athenian has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with three straight losses, while International will come in with four straight wins.

Last Thursday, Athenian came up short against Cornerstone Christian and fell 58-46. While losing is never fun, the Owls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 579th, while the Cougars are ranked 157th).

Meanwhile, International didn't have too much trouble with The Bay School on Friday as they won 62-47.

International's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-11. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.7 points per game. As for Athenian, they now have a losing record at 9-10.

Athenian skirted past International 60-57 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Athenian since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
