Game recap: Metamora high school football team rolls to victory over Washington

Metamora (Ill.) kept up a steady attack all game long to defeat Washington (Ill.), 40-0, on Saturday.

After taking the lead on a Bryan Burk touchdown run in the first quarter, the Redbirds led 27-0 at the half.

Metamora expanded its lead to 33 points entering the fourth quarter. MHS's lone score in the quarter came on a touchdown run by Dekota Doerr.

With the win the Redbirds extended their winning streak to six games. Metamora defeated the Potters 45-3 last week.

Burk stood out for MHS in the win. The senior ran for three touchdowns.

The Panthers came in surrendering 9.4 points per game this season. Washington struggled against the Redbirds, which came in averaging 26.9 points per game. Coming into the game Metamora had allowed 19.0 points per game this year.



MHS also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 27-24.

The defeat comes as a step back for Washington, which notched a 37-6 victory over Limestone in its previous outing. The loss snapped WHS's 2-game winning streak.

In a Mid-Illini game next week Metamora (6-2) takes on Limestone, and Washington (6-2) will go up against Canton also in a Mid-Illini game.
