Softball Game Preview: Fairfax Lions vs. Venice Gondoliers

Fairfax is 1-9 against Venice since March of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Lions will look to defend their home field against the Gondoliers at 4:30 p.m. Fairfax has given up an average of 15.3 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Fairfax is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 22nd straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They came up short against Palisades, falling 14-4.

Meanwhile, Venice entered their tilt with Hamilton on Thursday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Yankees a 17-0 shutout. Considering the Gondoliers have won 14 matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Sandy Carrera, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Acensio, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Venice kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in four consecutive games.

Venice's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Fairfax, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-18.
