Football Game Preview: St. Paul's Crusaders vs. Severn School Admirals

The St. Paul's Crusaders will head out to take on the Severn School Admirals at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. St. Paul's will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

St. Paul's took a 31-point defeat the last time they faced off against Pallotti, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Crusaders won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by the Panthers 27-26. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

St. Paul's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lamar West, who rushed for 97 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 33 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Landan Blue did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 81 receiving yards.

Severn School hadn't beaten Archbishop Curley on the road since October 7, 2016 but that history sure didn't bother them on Saturday. The Admirals enjoyed a cozy 35-16 victory over the Friars.

St. Paul's better keep an eye on Ty Bussard. He was instrumental in Severn School's win, throwing for 301 yards and four TDs while picking up 10.8 yards per attempt. Those 301 passing yards gave Bussard a new career-high. Jack Schlein helped Bussard out on the ground, picking up 114 receiving yards, while also rushing for 38 yards.

Severn School didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Archbishop Curley to a completion percentage of just 45.5%. The Admirals weren't nearly as limited: they posted one of 53.6%.

Severn School didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Nick Walters and Cole Gray. Gray also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with eight.

St. Paul's record is now 4-1. As for Severn School, their record now sits at 3-4.

St. Paul's beat Severn School 14-7 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Crusaders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
