Basketball Game Preview: Bertrand Vikings vs. Southwest Roughriders

The Bertrand Vikings will challenge the Southwest Roughriders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Bertrand's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Southwest has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

If Bertrand beats Southwest with 60 points on Friday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Bertrand walked away with a 60-51 win over South Loup on Saturday.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Bertrand to victory, but perhaps none more so than Thunder Nelson, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. The match was Nelson's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Hernandez, who posted 15 points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Southwest was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 47-42 to Hi-Line [Eustis-Farnam/Elwood].

Bertrand's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Southwest, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-8.

Bertrand was able to grind out a solid win over Southwest in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, winning 47-40. Will Bertrand repeat their success, or does Southwest have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
