Baseball Game Preview: Sussex Central Golden Knights vs. William Penn Colonials

The Sussex Central Golden Knights will venture away from home to take on the William Penn Colonials at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sussex Central will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.

Sussex Central is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Delaware's top teams: Caravel Academy, who was ranked 15th at the time (Sussex Central was ranked second). The Golden Knights put the hurt on the Buccaneers with a sharp 10-0 victory on Tuesday. Sussex Central's win was all the more impressive since the Buccaneers were averaging only 3.76 runs allowed on the season.

Meanwhile, William Penn has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.71 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They came up short against Conrad Science, falling 10-0. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Colonials were not able to get on the board.

Sussex Central's victory bumped their record up to 13-4. As for William Penn, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-5.

Sussex Central skirted past William Penn 5-4 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Knights since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
