Top defensive teams in New Mexico

Watch the Tigers' senior for the state's No. 1 defensive team.

Led by a Dynamic Duo, Los Lunas arguably can be listed as New Mexico's No. 1 defensive football team after four games, according to MaxPreps statistics.

The Tigers have roared to a 4-0 record behind a defense led by sophomore Diego Sanchez and senior Trevor Brohard. Sanchez leads the state with 60 tackles - 15 per game - while Brohard is No. 2 with 57. Their inspired efforts have enabled the Tigers to lead the state with 309 tackles. Other impressive numbers are 216 solo tackles, which leads the state by a wide margin, and 21 tackles for losses.

Tohachi ranks No. 2 with 293 tackles and is 10th with 8.5 sacks.



The leader in sacks in Roswell with 17.5, paced by sophomore Cade Manzanares, who is tied for No. 1 individually with six. McCurdy has 16 sacks with an average of 5.3 per game and 124 yards lost. No. 9 Myamura (Gallup) has set opponents back 139 yards with 8.5 sacks.

Volcano Vista (Albuquerque) paces the state with nine interceptions and has returned them for 185 yards.

Clovis has placed No. 5 in all three categories with 245 tackles, 11.5 sacks and six interceptions.
