The West Oso Bears will face off against the Bishop Badgers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Oso is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.2 points per game this season.
Last Tuesday, West Oso was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 52-47 to London. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 752nd, while the Pirates are ranked 333rd).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jordan Hernandez, who went 7-for-15 en route to 17 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Amarre Sanders, who posted nine points.
Meanwhile, Bishop had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.7 points) and they went ahead and made it 12 on Tuesday. They took down the Lions 68-50.
Bishop's win came from a few key players West Oso will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was James Garcia, who dropped a double-double with 26 points and ten rebounds. That's the most boards he has posted since back in December of 2024. Trysten Trejo was another key player, going 6-for-11 from beyond the arc on his way to 18 points.
Bishop's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-12. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.5 points over those games. As for West Oso, their defeat dropped their record down to 22-13.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: West Oso has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 27.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Bishop struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.3 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
West Oso ended up a good deal behind Bishop in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, losing 56-39. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Bishop's Kristian Ramos, who went 5-for-10 to rack up 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Now that West Oso knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
